Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling plating racks and falling die sets: A.PLATING LINE #1: THE WIRE ROPE PROVIDED ON THE R+M HOIST WAS RUSTED, CRUSHED AND DAMAGED. THE CHAIN PROVIDED ON THE CM LODESTAR HOIST WAS SCRAPED AND GOUGED. B.PRESS ROOM: THE WIRE ROPE ON A TAN DIE CART WAS FRAYED AND SEVERAL STRANDS HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN THROUGH. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO HAVE A QUALIFIED PERSON CONDUCT REGULAR (MONTHLY) INSPECTIONS OF HOIST EQUIPMENT AND MAKE REPAIRS AS NEEDED. SPECIFIC ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED
