Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the unexpected release of a suspended load due to crane component failure: HEAT TREAT: THE P&H 3 TON UNDERHUNG MONORAIL CRANE HAD A DAMAGED WIRE ROPE AND A WORN SHEAVE. ONE FEASIBLE AND USEFUL METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD, AMONG OTHERS, IS TO: 1.HAVE A COMPETENT PERSON/COMPANY THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE CRANE AND PERFORM ALL NEEDED MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. 2.DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A PROGRAM OF REGULAR DOCUMENT CRANE INSPECTIONS INCLUDING MONTHLY WIRE ROPE INSPECTIONS AND AN ANNUAL INSPECTION OF THE ENTIRE CRANE WITH CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN AS NEEDED.
