Employees fabricated architectural stone using precast concrete and pigment. The processes generated Particulates Not Otherwise Regulated (Total Dust). On 5/23/12 one employee loading mold frames onto the pour line was exposed to Particulates Not Otherwise Regulated (Total Dust) at a concentration greater than the 8 hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 15.0 mg/m3. The employee was exposed to total dust at a concentration of 49.28 mg/m3 as an 8 hour TWA. This is 3.3 times the PEL. Air monitoring was conducted for 450 minutes. Employees wore Gateway model 80101 N95 filtering facepiece respirators when working in the pouring or stripping areas. The employer did not provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator. Employees fabricated molds for the architectural stone using BASF Elastocast S 55090T Isocyanate (containing 48% diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate) and BASF Elastofoam 37430R Resin. Work processes generated aerosols of diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate. The employer required employees to wear 3M tight fitting air purifying half mask respirators with organic vapor cartridges and P100 filters when fabricating molds. The employer did not provide a medical evaluation to determine an employee's ability to use a respirator.
