Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees in the vincinity of the overhead accumalator of the alkylation unit (421) pretreat system were exposed to the hazard potential of entering an area of high H2S concentration in the event of failure of a damage to vessels or piping. Among other methods, one method to correct this hazard is to install an H2S detector in the area.
