Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards: a) The maintenance employees engaged in throwing debris (sections of screw conveyor) of the Roof of the Pattern Shop were exposed to a fall of 28 ft. 6 in. and were not provided with fall protection. September 12, 1985. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Install standard guard rail & toeboard in areas of the roof where employees are required to work near the edge of the open sided flat roof. 2) Provide employees with safety belt and lanyard when they are required to work near edge of open sided flat roof.
