Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: On December 17, 2025, at an establishment located at 145 Golf Course Drive in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, the employer did not provide one or more methods of machine guarding when employees operated the: a) Northwood Machine Raptor Dual-Table Sawjets (Model SW138-SJ127-SWJ Series) while the machine was probing a workpiece. Employees were able to access the saw's table and approach the saw head as it probed the workpiece on the table. The employee was exposed to caught-between, struck-by, and amputation hazards posed by the automated movements of the saw's bridge, trolley, and saw head. b) Two Cms brembana speed CNC machines (Model Speed 35 MB) while the machines were stopped to move clamps during production. The interlocks on the machines' doors had been bypassed, which allowed employees to access the CNCs' tables inside their enclosures. Employees accessed the enclosures to move, remove, and reset clamps while the machines were stopped, which exposed employees to caught-between, struck-by, and amputation hazards posed by the automated movements of the CNC routers' bridges, trollies, and router heads.
