Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by overloaded overhead storage locker that had broken strands of steel cable used to pull overhead lockers into position. EMS Locker Room - Overhead lockers exceeded the manufacturers load limit of 20 pounds and the hand cables had broken wires and bird caging thus employees were exposed to potential injury if locker dropped. Observed 4/23/87. One feasible and acceptable abatement method among others, to correct this hazard is to follow manufacturers recommendations and not exceed the 20 pound capacity requirement and also replace broken and damaged cables.
