Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to injury from thermal burns: a) Employees in the Portion Control Cook room walk and work in close proximity to process steam pipes. The pipes, at 212 degrees F are uninsulated thus exposing employees to injury from burns, 3/19/91. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard: Insulate pipes within seven feet of the floor to block the transfer of heat. b) Employees on the Margarine line form and package Margar- ine with a Mar Pac Machine (number 19). An unguarded packag- ing glue pot at approximately 275 degrees F is located beside the work area thus exposing employees to injury from burns, 3/19/91. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correctthis hazard is to insulate the glue pot to block the transfer of heat.
