29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. At an establishment 204 South Street, in Bonduel, Wisconsin, (a) On or about June 14, 2024, in the Fabrication Area, the Niagara hydraulic press brake did not have guarding between the part and frame while performing bending activities on small parts exposing employees to caught in between hazards. (b) On or about June 26, 2024, in the HPL Area, the glue line machine did not have guarding between the Southworth scissors lift conveyor and fixed conveyor exposing employees to caught in between hazards when the scissors lift lowered to the lowest position. (c) On or about June 26, 2024, in the HPL Area, the glue line machine had a singular safety mat used to protect employees against struck by hazards from the Midwest Automation PF251 board pusher. The safety mat was not large enough to prevent employees from stepping over and being in the struck by area. (d) On or about June 14, 2024, in the Fabrication Area, the Accurshear 625010 shear did not have the hold down guarding adjusted when performing shearing activities exposing employees to caught in between hazards. (e) On or about June 26, 2024, in the Plastic Cutting Area, the Maggi Engineering Junior 640 Radial Arm Saw did not return to the original position upon release exposing employees to struck by hazards.
