Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.124(g)(2): Employees who work with liquids that could burn, irritate, or otherwise harm their skin were not provided with an emergency shower and eye-wash station close to the dipping and coating operation: a) On March 27, 2024, and prior to; employees use and are exposed to injurious corrosive materials while working with hard chrome, zinc, nickel, copper and electroplating chemicals to include but not limited to; chromic acid - CAS#7440-47-3 (Cat 1 respiratory irritation. Cat 1 skin sensitization. Cat 1 serious eye damage/irritation), sulfuric acid - CAS #7664-93-9. (Cat 1 eye. Cat 1A skin), hydrochloric acid - CAS#7647-01-0 Cat 1 serious eye damage. Cat 1 skin sensitization), and boric acid - CAS# 10043-35-3 (Cat 2A Eye corrosion/irritation). An eyewash station was not available. Note* Abatement certification is required for this item. Note: In place of this equipment, the employee may use a water hose that is at least 4 feet (1.22 m) long and at least 3/4 of an inch (18 mm) thick with a quick-opening valve and carrying a pressure of 25 pounds per square inch (1.62 k/cm2) or less.
