29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. At an establishment located at 7811 County Road D in Waupaca, Wisconsin, employees of Bernatello's Pizza, Inc. were not provided machine guarding to protect operators and other employees in the machine areas from hazards, such but not limited to: a) On or about November 1, 2023, the employer did not protect employees from the ingoing nip points on the pie press on line 1. Lower guard on the pie press to ? inch opening above pie pan, no later than April 12, 2024. b) On or about November 1, 2023, the employer did not protect employees from the ingoing nip points on the dough roller on line 1. Add a second bar to the dough roller to increase distance from feed, no later than April 12, 2024. c) On or about October 18, 2023, the employer did not protect employees from the nip point on the tex-wrap machine. Add plexiglass tunnels to the tex-wrap machine entry and exit, no later than April 12, 2024.
