29 CFR 1910.30(a) Fall Hazards. 1910.30(a)(3) The employer must train each employee in at least the topics as required in 1910.30(a)(3)(i)-1910.30(a)(3)(iv). 29 CFR 1910.30(a)(3)(i): The did not train employees on the nature of the fall hazards in the work area and how to recognize them. The employer did not train each employee tasked with blowing down the top of the Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 Dryer Systems on the nature of the fall hazards and how to recognize them. Employees are exposed to falls of greater than 4 feet, approximately 12 feet from the top of the dryer to the catwalk below, that could result in injuries such as contusions, broken bones, head injuries, or death. The following instances were identified: (a) On or about August 10, 2023, employees were tasked with blowing down the top of the dryer systems and were not trained to or expected to wear fall protection. (b) On or about August 17, 2023, employees were tasked with blowing down the top of the dryer systems and were not trained to or expected to wear fall protection. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
