Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: a) MAI Manufacturing located at 20078 Ohio 4 Marysville, OH 43040: On and preceding June 30, 2022, employees were exposed to machine hazards associated with moving parts during part/material changes, servicing and maintenance activities on machinery. The machinery included but is not limited to the north and south robotic waterjets which had non-operational light curtains. The light curtains were in place to prevent start-up of the machines while operators were working within the machine enclosure. The north waterjet had one of three sets of light curtains that was inoperable, and the south waterjet had two of three sets of light curtains that were inoperable. The following condition exposed employees to caught-in and struck-by hazards.
