Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.106(e)(8): "Repairs to equipment." Hot work, such as welding or cutting operations, use of spark-producing power tools, and chipping operations shall be permitted only under supervision of an individual in responsible charge. The individual in responsible charge shall make an inspection of the area to be sure that it is safe for the work to be done and that safe procedures will be followed for the work specified. On or about January 26, 2022, on the top of an Ethylene Dichloride Tank at the Westlake Chemical facility, Plant B in Westlake, LA; employees utilized a reciprocating saw to cut bolts which produced sparks. The employees performed the work without first inspecting the area to ensure that the area was safe for the work.
