Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.333(c)(3)(iii)(A): Any vehicle or mechanical equipment capable of having parts of its structure elevated near energized overhead lines shall be operated so that a clearance of 10 ft. (305 cm) is maintained. If the voltage is higher than 50kV, the clearance shall be increased 4 in. (10 cm) for every 10kV over that voltage. Client delivery sites (e.g. 1138 Backbone Rd. in Tampico, IL 61283), bag/bulk delivery persons/truck drivers, feed truck/trailer top-mounted augers: on or about January 14, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that a clearance of at least 10 feet or more from the energized overhead lines was maintained when employees maneuvered feed augers. Employees using ground controls on delivery equipment were exposed to direct contact with electric power distribution lines (120V to 7.8 kV) likely to result in electrocution. Employees did not know about safe clearances and practices to position vehicles and operate equipment at the required distances away from power lines. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
