29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used wherever it was necessary by reason of hazards encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body: a) Foundry department, sand beds. On or about November 4, 2020, employees performing melting operations were not required to wear aprons/ torso/lower body protection designed to prevent thermal burns during the pouring operations. Employees did not utilize aprons while performing activities that included, but were not limited to pouring hot, molten aluminum. Multiple employees carried ladles of molten metal, including but not limited to melted aluminum, across the Foundry Department.
