Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.219(c)(3): Guarding vertical and inclined shafting. Vertical and inclined shafting seven (7) feet or less from floor or working platform, excepting maintenance runways, shall be enclosed with a stationary casing in accordance with requirements of paragraphs (m) and (o) of this section. a) On or about 6/15/2020 the LES/Retail Packaging conveyor system for the garage door line allowed employees to access the rotating shafts (operating at 2005 RPMs) due to the shaft not being properly guarded with methods such as barrier guards and electronic safety devices. Employees were exposed to a caught in hazard while operating the machine. An employee working on the LES/Retail Packaging line. saw excess glue built up on the shaft (2005 RPMs)(approx. 4" below the rollers)that moves the conveyer system, As the employee reached in-between the rollers (approx. 5" gap), the employee's right hand was caught in the shaft.
