29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: East Plant Bldg., 813 E. Locust Street, DeKalb, IL, S1 Stranding Machine. On or about November 4, 2019, employees were exposed to amputation and crushing hazards to hands and fingers. The moveable (hinged) barrier guards at the roll forming heads were not adequate to prevent entry into the point of operation, ingoing nip points and rotating parts. The guards did not prevent entry from all sides into the danger zone, nor were they equipped with safety interlock switches. The machine could be run with the guards in a raised position. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
