29 CFR 1926.652(e)(2)(i): Excavation of material to a level no greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of the members of the support system was allowed when there were indications while the trench was open of a possible loss of soil from behind or below the bottom of the support system: On or about February 20, 2020, at an excavation site, an employee was observed working within a trench greater than five feet deep with the bottom of protective system elevated more than two feet above the trench floor. The employee was exposed to struck by and crushing hazards.
