Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.23(b)(12): Each employee shall use at least one hand to grasp the ladder when climbing up and down it: The employer is failing to protect employees from step ladders fall hazards while engaged in retail activities. This was most recently documented on or about June 1, 2019, at Academy Sports + Outdoors at 14405 West 135th Street in Olathe, Kansas. An employee engaged in sales activities, attempting to retrieve and carry down a JUGS Lite Pitching Machine from a gondolas top shelf, using a Werner A frame, eight foot ladder (Werner Model PT7408-4C, size 8 ft. Type IA Fiberglass Stepladder with casters) fell and struck his head. At the time of the fall, the employee was descending or climbing down the ladder while carrying or holding the pitching machine in both hands.
