Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.67(c)(2)(v): A personal fall arrest or travel restraint system that meets the requirements in subpart I of this part shall be worn and attached to the boom or basket when working from an aerial lift. The employer is failing to protect employees from the hazards of falling. This was most recently documented at 8209 Garfield Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas where an employee working from inside an aerial lift bucket to cut tree branches from an oak tree that was approximately 70 feet tall was fatally injured when a rope holding an oak tree branch impacted the bucket of the Versalift aerial equipment. The impact caused the aerial lift bucket to separate from the boom resulting in the employee falling approximately 45 feet to the ground.
