29 CFR 1926.859(g): During demolition, continuing inspections by a competent person were not made as the work progressed to detect hazards resulting from weakened or deteriorated floors, or walls, or loosened material. Employees were also permitted to work where such hazards existed without being corrected by shoring, bracing, or other effective means. On or about July 23, 2018, at 5775 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida, employees were permitted to work in areas where hazards existed from weakened floors, walls and other structural components, and corrective action was not taken. Employees were permitted to work within 50 feet of the demolition of a 14-story apartment building, exposing the employees to being struck-by or crushed- by concrete pieces and other building debris.
