Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.145(c)(3): Safety instruction sign(s) were not used where there was a need for general instructions and suggestions relative to safety measure(s): The employer is failing to protect the employees from hazards associated with overhead crane activities, such as but not limited to struck-by and crushing hazards. This was most recently documented on November 3, 2017, at the workstation 2-297F Plant II factory located at 3801 S. Oliver St., Wichita, Kansas. Employees were exposed in that the cab of the crane was not equipped with safety signs and cautionary language warning against hazards including but not limited to: 1) Do not lift more than rated load 2) Do not operate hoist when load is not centered under the hoist. 3) Do not operate hoist with twisted, kinked, or damaged chain or rope. 4) Do not operate damaged or malfunctioning crane. 5) Do not lift people. 6) Do not lift loads over people. 7) Do not operate a rope hoist with a rope not properly seated in its groove. 8) Do not remove or obscure safety labels.
