OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to chemical hazards. a) Throughout the farm, on or about 10/24/2018: Employees worked with injurious corrosives including but not limited to Ridstone, Mega San+, RTD CIP Detergent, Bac-Drop, and Classic Dynemate during cleaning, without facilities for quick drenching of the eyes within the work area for immediate emergency use in case of splashed chemical onto the eyes. b) Throughout the farm, on or about 10/24/2018: Employees working with injurious corrosives including but not limited to Ridstone, Mega San+, RTD CIP Detergent, Bac-Drop, and Classic Dynemate during cleaning were not provided with chemical goggles and a faceshield to protect the eyes and face and chemical gloves and apron to protect the hands and body. Among other feasible and acceptable means of abatement: Feasible means of Abatement: Install eyewash facilities that will provide 15 minutes of continuous flow of water and will comply with the American National Standards Institute, ANSI Standard Z358.1-2014 - Eyewash Equipment, Section(s) 5.4 which states an eye wash station shall be located on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds to reach, with a highly visible sign and be connected to a supply of flushing fluid to produce spray for a minimum of 15 minutes. Provide personal protective equipment, such as safety goggles, glasses, or face shield that will comply with Safety Data Sheets, Section 8, which states personal protection requires goggles, safety glasses or face shield for eye and face protection and protective gloves and clothing for skin and body protection.
