Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. The employer did not assure that employees were protected from the rotating cylinder head of the Pan-O-Mat machine. Employees were required to inspect and spray oil onto the Pan-O-Mat's cylinder head to prevent dough build-up and were exposed to amputation hazards due to the lack of guarding. Alfred Nickles Bakery, Incorporated was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 943006, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on March 27, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at 1950 N. Sugar Street, Lima, Ohio 45801.
