OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and electrical shock hazards associated with the air compressor manufactured by Wood Industrial Products. The employer is failing to protect employees from fire and electrical shock hazards when utilizing the air compressor (Mfg.: Brunner; Serial Number: unknown) at the east side of the maintenance shop. This was most recently documented, on or about 8/29/2017, at 0013 13 Rd, Ingalls, KS 67853, where employees engaged in maintenance activities, directly using the air compressor for a variety of tasks, were exposed in that the flexible power cord running to the electrical enclosure on the compressor was not properly secured to the connection point and equipped with strain relief. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method of abatement includes ensuring power cord on the air compressor is secured and equipped with strain relief as required in NFPA 70E (NEC) 400.14 - Pull at Joints and Terminals. Flexible cords and flexible cables shall be connected to devices and to fittings so that tension is not transmitted to joints or terminals.
