OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Drilling Rig Floor. On or about May 29, 2017, employees operating a drilling rig during the drilling of an oil/gas well did not attach breakout tongs to a fixed structure using a wire rope or stiff arm. This exposed the employees to the hazard of being struck by the tongs or the attached steel alloy chain in the event of a snub line failure.
