Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that heat treater employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed, suffocated and/or falling while riding on the door of the hearth furnace: HEAT TREAT DEPARTMENT, BUILDING 08: THE HEAT TREAT OPERATOR WAS NOT PROTECTED FROM THE HAZARD OF BEING CRUSHED BY THE TOP AND BOTTOM (DOOR) OF THE FURNACE, SUFFOCATED WHILE BEING TRAPPED INSIDE THE FURNACE AND/OR FALLING OFF FROM THE DOOR. AMONG OTHER METHODS, THE FOLLOWING FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS ARE: 1.USE OF ROLLING STAIRS HAVING PROPER RAILINGS 2.USE OF SCISSORS-TYPE MANLIFT HAVING PROPER RAILINGS 3.USE OF OTHER EQUIVALENT DEVICE
