Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.303(b)(7)(i): Unused openings in boxes, raceways, auxiliary gutters, cabinets, equipment cases, or housings shall be effectively closed to afford protection substantially equivalent to the wall of the equipment. On or about 08 May 2017, the employer failed to adequately close unused openings in electrical enclosures and employees working in the following areas were exposed to injury from fire and electric shock: a. Near Machine #6. The electrical disconnect for the machine had a unused opening in the box with exposed energized wires. Employees were exposed to shock and fire hazards. b. Machine #8. The front control panel has a open hole with energized wires within the box. c. Machine #8. On the back side of the control panel. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
