Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being entrapped in a conveyor system: (a) Coke Handling, Metallurgical Screening Station, M-2, 36 inch conveyor belt line; The control stations were not so arranged and located that the operation of the equipment was visible from them nor were they clearly marked or labeled to indicate the function controlled. In addition, when in a remote area, employees were not notified either by signals or a designated person that the conveyor was about to start. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a well labeled control station and have employees in radio contact with each other prior to starting up the belt.
