Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling approximately 20-25 feet from an unguarded conveyor: a) Conveyor Adjacent to Pre-Sort Area: On or about 04/22/96, an employee was standing on the conveyor belt while performing work on a motor and was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 20-25 feet. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are as follows: 1. Provide catwalks to all areas requiring periodic maintenance; or 2. Use an aerial lift to perform maintenance.
