Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a. G.E. Building - On or about January 28, 1999, employees required to use the south door were being lifted 8 - 10 feet off the ground, on the forks, to close the door, thereby exposing employees to fall hazards. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include: 1. Repair the overhead door. 2. Provide a safety platform for lifting personnel. 3. Retrain employees and enforce rules on forklift usage.ft
