Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees are exposed to the hazard of fire from the un-approved rubber flexible hose used for carrying natural gas to the gas burner for heating the abrasive blasting room. The rubber flexible hose does not offer the protection from physical and thermal damage that steel pipe offers and the flexible connector, when used, shall be kept as short as pssible. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install rigid steel pipe for all natural gas use and use approved flexible connectors for connecting gas utilization equipment.
