Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to crushing hazards from moving machine parts, such as the baling conveyors and the gathering rams, in the event the equipment is started without warning. Production Department: 1)The Harris HRB baler was not equipped with a working audible or visual alarm. 2)The Mosley baler was not equipped with a visual alarm. One method, among other methods to correct the conditions, is to install a visual start up alarm on the Mosley baler and repair the audio and visual start up alarms on the Harris baler in accordance with ANSI Z245.2-1992 that warns employees of impending machine start-up. "ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM".
