29 CFR 1910.178(q)(7): Industrial trucks shall be examined before being placed in service, and shall not be placed in service if the examination shows any condition adversely affecting the safety of the vehicle. Such examination shall be made at least daily. Where industrial trucks are used on a round-the-clock basis, they shall be examined after each shift. Defects when found shall be immediately reported and corrected. On or about May 25, 2016, the employer did not ensure that defective powered industrial trucks such as forklifts, mules and electric pallet jacks were put out of service, and that defects were reported and corrected. a) Where at the loading dock area the brake engaging mechanism for Mule MU29 was not functional, and the unit was still in use. b) Where on the main floor at the staging area Unit PJ15 was missing wiring cover and was not tagged out for service The US Postal Service was previously cited for a repeat violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.178(q)(7), which was contained in OSHA inspection number_1093494_, citation number_01_, item number_001_ and was affirmed as a final order on December 17, 2015, with respect to a workplace located at_3101 W Sunflower Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92799_.
