Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and safety data sheets. Arcal Line On or about 5/4/16, employees working on the Arcal Line were not trained in the hazards of the Arcal material used on that process line. The specific hazard not communicated was that of the hydrogen fluoride (HF) that is a hazard identified in the SDS. The HF is identified as a product of the heated process and can cause acid burns and binds to calcium deep within the body if not immediately treated. The antidote for exposure, calcium gluconate, was available in the shop, however employees were not trained in how/when it should be used.
