Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling hazards caused by inadequate lighting: (a) In the bread freezer, employee(s) working inside the fan room were exposed to slipping, tripping, and falling hazards in that no lighting was provided to prevent employee(s) from inadvertantly walking into fixed objects such as fan openings and fan blades. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to provide the minimum required lumination of 20 footcandles as recommended by the Illumination Engineering Society Lighting Handbook.
