Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) For employees working in the flax house, on the main work floor, and exposed to a potential crushing hazard created by the lack of guardrails or some other type of barrier around the manlift area. (b) For employees working in the main house, on the main work floor, and exposed to a potential crushing hazard created by the lack of guardrails or some other type of barrier around the manlift area. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard, among others, would be to install guardrails or some other type of barrier around the base of the manlift.
