Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:

29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(6)(i): Except as provided in 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(7) and 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(8), the employer did not ensure that each container of hazardous chemicals in the workplace was labeled, tagged or marked with the information required by 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(1)(i) through 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(1)(v): (a) Pepsi Beverages Company, at 3801 Brighton Boulevard, Denver, CO: On and preceding 1/26/16, the employer did not ensure that each container of hazardous chemicals in the workplace was labeled, tagged or marked with the information required by 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(1)(i) through 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(1)(v). Employees used corrosive liquids, such as Ecolab Inc Enforce (containing 9% sodium hydroxide and 3% sodium hypochlorite), Ecolab Inc Vortexx (containing 7% hydrogen peroxide and 5-10% acetic acid), and Ecolab Inc Advantis (containing 5-10% sodium hydroxide) to sanitize bottling equipment. The chemicals were dispensed through an Ecolab pumping station in the Quadexx Room. Containers were located beneath the dispensing stations to catch overflow or spillage. These containers, once full, were transported across the warehouse to a sewer, where they were poured. The containers for Ecolab Lift RT, Ecolab Advantis, Ecolab Enforce, Ecolab Surpass 100, Eclolab Vortexx, Ecolab Foam Shine, and Ecolab Ster Bac were not each labeled, tagged, or marked with a product identifier, signal word, hazard statement, pictogram, or precautionary statement. This condition exposed employees to a chemical hazard.
