Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential fire and explosion hazards while working in the magnesiuim atomizing areas: a) Atomizing Area: the magnesium preheater were not equipped with an approved automatic device to shut off the flow of gas to the burners in the event of flame extinguishment, August 30, 1990. FEASIBLE AND USEFUL METHODS OF ABATEMENT INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: 1) Install and maintain an automatic shutoff system for the gas burners per National Fire protection Association (NFPA 54) guidelines.
