Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by or caught in between equipment and crushed, in that, adequate support cribbing was not provided for hydraulic truck mounted crane in accordance with ANSI B30.5-1994, Section 5-3.4.6: (a)MARTA Medical Center Station - Detention Vault: An employee operating a Stinger, truck mounted, telescoping boom crane, did not ascertain that the cribbing underneath the outriggers was of sufficient strength to prevent it from crushing, bending, or shear failure on or about April 4, 1996. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to ensure that all employees responsible for crane operations are instructed in the proper installation and inspection of cribbing.
