Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, the fire door assemblies were not adequately rated for their use: (a) JFK: The labels on the fire rated doors in stairwells 1 through 7 were painted over preventing the authority having jurisdiction from determining if the fire rating of the doors were adequate for their use, as required by NFPA 80 Section 1-5.1 1984. One method among other methods to abate the condition is to locate the neccessary documentation which would provide the actual rating of the fire rated doors in stairwells 1 through 7. (b) JFK: The door frames in stairwells 1 through 7 were not is the frames had a fire rating adequate for their use as required by NFPA 80 Section 2-5.1 1984. One method among other methods to abate the condition is to locate the neccessary documentation which would indicate that the door frames were in fact fire rated frames. (c) JFK: The lock and latch sets used on fire rated doors in stairwells 1 through 7 were not fire rated panic hardward. One method among other methods to abate the condition is to replace the existing locks and latch sets with fire rated panic hardward. (d) JFK: The fire rated doors leading to starwells 1 through 7 were not equipped with fire rated panic hardware as required by NFPA 101 Section 8-2.2.2.3 1991. One method among other methods to abate the condition is to install panic hardware on the fire rated doors.
