Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) HAVING PARTS OF THEIR BODIES CRUSHED/BURNED, BY HAVING PARTS OF BODY INSIDE THE DIES AND/OR ACCIDENTAL CONTACT WITH HOT DIES ON HOT TRIMMER #2066, LOCATED IN THE FORGE SHOP. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE A PROPERLY COVERED FOOT TREADLE THAT WOULD PREVENT THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE TRIMMER FROM FALLING OR MOVING OBJECTS, OR FROM UNINTENDED OPERATION BY ACCIDENTAL STEPPING ONTO THE FOOT CONTROL.
