Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazasrds that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall(s) from an elevation of approximately 365 feet. Support wire rope did not employ a thimble nor was the eye of the wire rope secured by "J" clamps properly torqued. a) Walt Whitman Bridge, New Jersey side of the bridge West side of the New Jersey Tower, north side of bridge. Scaffoldings occupied by employees that were supported by wire ropes reeved through Sky Climber hoists and then looped around the bridges main support cable and fashioned into an eye and secured to itself. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard would be to secure the wire rope to a choker that would be looped around the main suspension cable. The eye formed in the wire rope would then be fitted with a thimble and the eye on the wire rope would be secured by a "J" clamp properly installed and torqued as per manufacturer's recommendations.
