Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of slips, trips and falls in that the employees were required to work off an unpinned work platform subject to movement at the railroad acid tank car more than 4 feet above the ground level. Feasible and useful method to correct the hazard, among other methods would be to enforce a policy of following a procedural approach to push the platform to the rail car and to lock the platofrm into position, secured from movement with a positive type safety pin or latch.
