Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, in that employees were exposed to amputation hazards: a) Plant, Building 2 - On or about 11/05/14 and at times prior thereto employees worked around the conveyor on the side of the double end trim saw, and were exposed to unprotected ingoing nip points created by the rollers, the conveyor band, and the fixed parts of the structure. The employer did protect the conveyor system with guards. b) Plant, Building 2 - On or about 11/05/14 and at times prior thereto employees worked around the conveyor on the side of the double end trim saw, and the power disconnect panel for the conveyor was not directly accessible during an emergency. The employer did not ensure that the conveyor was equipped with emergency stop buttons, pull wires, or similar emergency stop devices. c) Plant, Building 2 - On or about 11/05/14 and at times prior thereto employees worked around the conveyor that received the cut wood from the Morgan Chop Saw, and were exposed to unprotected ingoing nip points created by the rollers, the conveyor band, and the fixed parts of the structure. The employer did not protect the conveyor system with guards. d) Plant, Building 2 - On or about 11/05/14 and at times prior thereto employees worked around the conveyor that received the cut wood from the Morgan Chop Saw, and the power disconnect panel for the conveyor was not directly accessible during an emergency. The employer did not ensure that the conveyor was equipped with emergency stop buttons, pull wires, or similar emergency stop devices. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
