Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazard of being struck or seriously injured by train traffic on the plant premises in that adequate railroad warning signs were not placed at the railroad crossings. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to install railroad reflec- tive cross bucks on each side of the tracks, 8 feet from the edge of the roadway and 12 feet from the centerline of the tracks. Also, an advance sign, yellow with a black cross, should be placed 100 feet from the tracks and 8 feet from the edge of the traveled way.
