Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees riding in a work basket suspended from the load line on a floating crane were exposedto the hazard of dropping into the river: a) Floating crane "Annapolis" at pier #48 - Observed employees suspended from the live load hoist line on a crane that was not provided with controlled load lowering capabilities on 5/22/86. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide control load lowering devices that comply with OSHA standards.
