Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001D Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to fire, explosion and steam hazards. (a) Boiler Room; The three "Titusville" automatically fired natural gas boilers were being operated with manually operated shutoff valves which could not be identified as "On or Off" nor were these handles permanently attached. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to permanently install the handles and clearly mark them to clearly indicate "On/Off" positions in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, CSD-1-1995.
