Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001C Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: Excel Corporation, I-27 Exit 54, Plainview, TX. For the period of time up to and including 4/2/99, night cleanup contractors were observed using a high-pressure, high-temperature water hose on top of a work platform with an unguarded side. This exposed contract employees with injuries associated with falls from a height of six feet. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Installing an overhead tie-off point or cable. 2. Installing a removable guard rail.
